Howard and Neil made our terrass on our house in Ille sur Tet. We are two Danish couples, owing the house together, and we still work in Denmark and was unable to go to Ille during the winther, while Hussell made the terrass. Anyway we felt so Secure with them, they did send us many pictures during the process, and the work is SO GOOD, we are so pleased with it. I'd like to recommend a local building firm who have just finished replacing our ancient roof and re-pointing a huge 4 storey outside wall. Hussell Building is a British father-and-son outfit, based in the P-O, with over 30 years experience in roofing and general building work. Our roof was a real pig of a job - the most awkward shape and no vehicle access for delivery and removal. But they weren't fazed and just cracked on in a confident and professional manner, keeping us informed of progress by email (with numerous photos) every step of the way. They even did all the fiddly extra bits we asked for without complaint or needing a reminder. They don't take the traditional French lunch break and work "English hours" but my goodness they do get through the tea bags! Unusual for local builders they also have their own scaffolding which allows them to be more flexible and helps to keep the costs down. It's not easy handing the keys to your precious French house over to a stranger but Howard, and his son Neil, filled us with confidence and we are delighted with the end result.

Howard Hussell and son Neil have transformed our ancient Pyrenean stone house and barn into a fantastic habitable residence. Howard has employed his consummate skills in heavy masonry to re-build the shell of the building, creating brand new tiled roofs supported by impressive beams and laying concrete floors in the barn. He has exposed and pointed areas of stone inside the building as well as expertly rendering the remaining interior walls in a traditional chaux finish. He has also fitted the plumbing from scratch and collaborated with our electrician and tiler. We feel confident that our new home is totally secure and will withstand the extreme elements of the region as well as fitting sensitively into the local environment. We were updated throughout the project via emails and photographs, having an opportunity to discuss developments and changes in plans and a chance to select our preferences for materials and fittings. We are really delighted with the finished result and are now enjoying being in a building that functions as a beautiful, comfortable home

Howard Hussell worked on a house we were renovating in France. The project was a big one. We were totally renovating the 'cave' of a large village house, which involved lining the walls, sorting out the drains and laying a concrete floor. Imagine a huge, partially underground room with a river running through it. The job had been attempted and abandoned by a local builder. Howard came to our rescue installing a concrete floor and cavity walls which he then rendered and inserted natural stone features so the place retained its character. Not only did he have all the local knowledge of building techniques but he approached the work with fanatical professional pride and precision that makes him by far the best builder we have ever employed. He has vast experience and is also very good at explaining technical details and possibilities. In short we cannot recommend him too highly, he will be our very first choice for a building job and we are recommending him to all our friends for his skill and diligence.

Mr Hussell, in his capacity as a builder living in France, was employed by myself and my wife at intervals over the past eight years when I was modernising a small house which I had bought in France. During that time he carried out projects for me, working unsupervised on several occasions in the intervals between our visits. His conduct in all matters, professional, personal and financial was always completely satisfactory and we had no hesitation in leaving him the keys so that he had access to the property in our absence. As he was also doing some work for a retired colleague in the neighbouring village, I had the opportunity to meet him several times other that as my employee. My colleague and his wife hold the same view of him as I do. I believe Mr Hussell to be trustworthy in his behaviour and responsible in his attitude and have no hesitation in vouching for him as a conscientious and careful builder.

A big thank you to Hussell Building for the completion of a successful project. Transforming our uninhabitable building into a two storey 3 bedroom house was no easy task. Renovating from top to bottom, Howard's expertise and commitment, including roof, staircase, insulation, plumbing and tiling were completed on time. With excellent support from other members of this family business. The weekly schedule of work and costs ensured it also came in on budget. We bought a large house in France which needed to be completely renovated and although we could do a lot of the work ourselves, we needed a builder who could speak English but had plenty of experience working with French properties. Luckily we were recommended to Hussell Building and it was a great relief to meet someone as genuine as Howard Hussell, who loves his work and whose charges are realistic (unlike other local companies we approached). Howard built us a concrete staircase which is in keeping with the character of our house which enabled us to create another room out of what was once a rough cave of about 23m2 with dirt floors. What amazed me about Howard was how fast he worked. He always arrived at 8:30am and apart from a short break for lunch, worked solidly throughout the day, asking if he could do anything else whilst he waited for the concrete to set, because he doesn't like to be idle. Howard advised us on what materials we should use and he suggested alternative ways of doing some of the work. We asked him to build a shower room, close off doorways we didn't need and build walls where we wanted division. Without Howard we would never have completed the work here - we are really grateful for all his help and advice and would recommend him highly to anyone wanting a genuine hard working and qualified builder
